MFT takes an active role in developing academic exchange. Institute has established tie-ups with number of Universities and Research institutions and Garment industries. MFT collaborates with Alagappa University-Karaikudi, TamilNadu Open University-Chennai, Bharathiar University-Coimbatore, Manonmaniam Sundaranar Univeristy-Tirunelveli, etc. to conduct its Diploma and Under Graduate Courses Fashion Courses in full time and part–time basis. In addition, tie-ups with many renowned fashion institutions and colleges in India to ensure its standards are pegged to the rest of the world such as Central Leather Research Institute-Chennai, Richpeace Group Co. Limited-Chennai etc. Such National links present invaluable interaction opportunities for our students and teachers.
University of Madras-Chennai

The University of Madras was formally established on September 5, 1857 and undertook as its motto ‘Doctrina Vim Promovet Insitam’ (Learning promotes [one’s] innate talent). Robert Chisholm was commissioned in 1861 to build the University’s first building, now a magnificent renovated heritage monument.
The University of Madras was the first to introduce autonomous colleges within the University system in 1978-79. since then, 25 out of the 178 affiliated institutions has become autonomous. The opening of the golden page in the history of the University of Madras with the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) accrediting it at the ‘Five Star’ level took place in 2000. That year also saw the University Grants Commission (UGC) according the University the special status well as for research in the focused area of herbal medicine. Presently NAAC has reaccredited the University of Madras with ‘A’ Grade. The first Vice-Chancellor of the University as Sir Christopher Rawlinson, the Chief justice of the Madras. This practice of part time Vice-Chancellors (majority from the High Court bench ) was to continue until 1923. The University at its inception comprised of four faculties – Arts, Law, Medical and Engineering, and examined candidates for degree in all these disciplines. However, consequent amendments to the Madras University Act, the Medical and Engineering Colleges earlier affiliated to this University have been since shifted to the newly created Dr. Ambedkar Law University, Dr. MGR Medical University and the Anna University respectively.
The innovations introduced in the last decade have been many. At present there are 70 teaching and research departments in the University, grouped under 17 Schools. Within the Chennai Metropolitan area the University is now spread over six campuses such as (1) The Chepauk Main Campus. (2) The Guindy Campus, (3) the Marina Campus, (4) the Taramani Campus, (5) the Chetput Campus (The Madras University Union), (6) the Maduravoyal Campus (Field Laboratory). The University offers several Masters and Research Programs.

Alagappa University-Karaikudi

MFT has been recognized as a collaborative programme institute by Alagappa Univeristy, Karaikudi, TamilNadu. The University was established under a Act of Tamil Nadu State Legislature in 1985. It has jurisdiction over two Revenue Districts of Tamil Nadu and has in its ambit 15 Post-Graduate Departments, 2 Constituent Colleges and 26 Affiliated Colleges offering courses in various disciplines catering to the educational needs of more than a lakh of students.The University has emerged from the galaxy ofInstitutions initially founded at Karaikudi by the munificent and multifaceted personality (late)Dr.R.M.Alagappa Chettiar.The Alagappa University has emerged as a pioneer institution in offering undergraduate full time courses in B.S. Apparel fashion designing and B.S. Fashion apparel management as well as other subjects in our two decades of its existence. Alagappa Univeristy has the honour of being awarded grade ‘A’ by NAAC and is a member of the Common wealth Universities and the Association of Indian Universities.

Tamilnadu Open University-Chennai

MFT is also a recognized Vocational Programme Institute and Programme Study Centre for TamilNadu Open University, which offers diploma courses in fashion designing and garment making, diploma in apparel and fashion design and BSc(apparel fashion design). TNOU was founded in 2002 by the Tamilnadu State Government and was recognized by the UGC in 2004, with the objective of introducing and promoting Open University and Distance Education systems in the educational scenario of Tamil Nadu, as well as, coordinating such systems and setting the standards for such systems. It is the 10th State Open University established in the country. The Head Office of the University is located at Chennai and the University operates through the Schools of study, Vocational programme Centres (VPCs), Programme Study Centres (PSCs) and Learning Resource Centre (LRCs). TNOU plays a vital role in introducing and promoting Open University and Distance Education systems.
The Tamil Nadu Open University was established by the Government of Tamil Nadu in the year 2002 by the Tamil Nadu Open University Act, 2002 (Act No 27 of 2002). As per the TNOU Act, the University with headquarters at Chennai may carry out its academic activities in India and overseas.

The objectives of the University are
To strengthen and diversity the degree, diploma and certificate courses related to the needs of employment and necessary for the economy of the State and the Country.
  1. To provide access to higher education for large segments of population and in particular, the disadvantaged groups such as those living in remote and rural areas including working people, housewives and other adults who wish to upgrade or acquire knowledge through studies in various fields.
  2. To promote acquisition of knowledge and to continually offer opportunities for upgrading knowledge, training and skills in the context of innovations, research and discovery in all fields of human endeavors.
  3. To evolve flexible and robust curricula to widen educational access, deepen knowledge frontier and create entrepreneurial skill sets.
  4. To provide a non formal channel of educational system complementary to the formal system and encourage transfer of credits.
  5. To provide education and training in the various arts and crafts and
  6. To provide for training of teachers.
As mandated by the Tamil Nadu University Act, 2002, the University has taken effective steps to offer various Academic and Vocation programmes under the distance education mode.

Bharathiar Univeristy-Coimbatore

MFT is an authorised study centre of Bharathiar University and offers B.Sc. costume design and fashion technology for fashion aspirants and various bachelor and master degrees in business, arts and science. University was originally founded in 1982 by the Government of Tamilnadu under the provision of Bharathiar University Act 1981. The University named after the great national poet Subramania Bharathi is enshrined with the motto ”Educate to Elevate”. In the University , every effort is harnesses to realize his dream of making educational institutions as temple of learning. Later the University received the recognition from University Grants Commission (UGC) New Delhi for the purpose of grants. University has been ranked as one of the top- ranked Universities with ‘A’ grade by NAAC.

Manonmaniam Sundaranar University –Tirunelveli

MFT is an Extension Learning Centre offers various Diplomas courses in Fashion Management, Fashion Merchandising & Production Management and Foreign Trade & Import Documentation open to students who are pursuing regular course of studies. University was established in the year 1990 under the act 31 of 1990 by the Government of Tamil Nadu, as a teaching-cum-affiliating University, with the date of inception being September 7, 1990. The university is named after Tamil poet literature, Prof.P. Sundaram Pillai (1885-1897) who is the author of the famous Verse drama, Manonmaniam.

Richpeace Group Co., Limited

MFT has also established tie-ups with Richpeace Group Co., Limited to offer Richpeace 3D Textile and Fashion Design system and Garment CAD system. Richpeace was established in 1992, dedicated in providing Textile and Garment CAD/CAM total solutions to the world. Through 16 years of developing, Richpeace Group has formed the structure of plurastic technology; systematic product lines, sales networks and international market operating and has established 6 platforms for computerized embroidering, quilting, knitting, schiffli, garment CAD/CAM an remote control system, etc. Richpeace commits itself to rebuild the traditional industry with new-high technology at all times, so as to make people’s work more easy and life more colourful.
