Madras Institute of Fashion Technology (MFT) is an educational Institute which was established in the year 2000 in chennai and registered under the Government of Tamil Nadu. The institute has established tie-ups with number of Universities, Research institutions and Garment industries. The Courses offered by this Institute are recognized by University of Madras, Alagappa University-Karaikudi, TamilNadu Open University - Chennai, Bharathiar University- Coimbatore, Manonmaniam Sundaranar Univeristy - Tirunelveli, etc. The Institute is offering Diploma, Under Graduate and Post Graduate Fashion Courses in full time, part–time basis and Distance Mode.

The University was established on 5th September 1857. The University was organised in the model of London University. 
Madras University is the mother of almost all the old Universities of southern India. The University imparts both Under Graduate and Post Graduate Education through the Affiliated Institutions which are spread over the districts of Chennai, Thiruvallur and Kancheepuram. Apart from teaching, research activities in Arts, Humanities, Science, Management and Technology are the main portals at the University.
